Dashboard Warning Lights

 

         

AIRBAG DASHBOARD SYMBOL

This sign will be on when the ignition is switched on and disappear after 6 seconds.

If the light doesn’t disappear at approximatively 6 seconds after you switch on your car and remains on or appears while driving, means that you might have a fault with the airbag and is advisable to seek assistance from a qualified engineer.

ADAPTIVE FRONT LIGHT SYMBOL (AFS)

Adaptive front lights adjust the headlight beams to illuminate the direction of travel

This light will be on if the AFS will have a fault and even if in most cases the headlights will still be functional, you have to visit an expert to check the car as the root of the failure could be a serious one.

ANTI-LOCK BRACKING SYSTEM ABS

The ABS warning light, if remains on for more than 10 seconds after you switch on the engine indicates a fault with the ABS system. Even if the brakes will remain unaffected the car should still be inspected by an expert as the ABS control module might lead to a series of problems:

  • Unresponsive brake pedals
  • Brake pads require more effort to push
  • The brakes are locking up.

BRAKE WARNING SYMBOL

In both cases this particular symbol might indicate:

  • low brake fluid or worn brake pads.
  • leaking brakes

Now, if the light is yellow you can still drive the car but you should have it checked and serviced.

If the light is red, please stop the car and send it to be checked and serviced because driving it further might lead to an accident.

DINAMYC STABILITY CONTROL (DSC)

This function is designed to automatically take the control of the vehicle in case of skidding and was designed to reduce the risk of accidents and offer stability.

A yellow warning light present on the dashboard indicates a failure that might lead to:

Vehicle sliding around the road or spinning out

DSC off will illuminate only when the system is manually turned off.

 

ENGINE EMISSIONS WARNING FAULT:

You’re driving your car one day when the worst nightmare happens: the check engine pops on. If the light is yellow, and the performance of your car is normal, come and have your car checked by an expert to avoid a serious future problem.

Possible reasons of the check engine yellow light:

  • Engine Low oil 
  • A code fault
  • Gas cap missing
  • Oxygen sensor

GLOW PLUG WARNING LIGHT

This symbol sometimes can be attributed to faulty crank sensor or cams and might put your car into the “safety mode” in order to prevent a damage to the engine.

The glow plugs are found only in diesel cars while the spark plugs are found in the petrol engines.

PROGRESS CONTROL SYSTEM

This symbol illuminates in amber to inform the driver that the progress control system is active

GENERAL WARNING MESSAGE

This sign can be seen on the dashboard as a center message and it’s a general warning (non-critical) or information message.

Check the message in the message center of your car and contact an expert if required.

TYRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM

 

Indicates that one or more tyres are being under-flatted.

Continuing the series of the dashboard warning lights meaning this sign represents BATTERY CHARGE WARNING LIGHT and when remains on, or if illuminates whilst driving you have to seek assistance urgently because there’s a fault with the battery charging system

BRAKE DASHBOARD  WARNINNG SYMBOL

If this sign illuminate while you are driving, please stop your vehicle as soon as possible and check the brake fluid levels.

Possible reasons for the brake warning light illuminating:

  • Problem with the anti-lock braking system ( ABS )
  • Low brake fluid
  • The parking brake is not fully released

CRITICAL WARNING MESSAGE (RED)

The red triangle with an exclamation mark means that your car is having a serious issue and is trying to transmit you a message. The message can be found in the message center

ENGINE TEMPERATURE WARNING LIGHT

If this signs illuminates on the dashboard, indicates that the temperature is being too high and you should immediately stop your car and switch off engine as engine damage might occur. It’s indicated to have the car picked up by recovery.

ENGINE OIL LIGHT

The engine oil light could indicate either a low oil level or an issue with the pressure of the oil. When illuminates on the dashboard, turn off the engine and do not try to drive the vehicle. Ideally would be to call a tow truck and bring the car to be checked by an expert.
